David LeDoux, retired professor of art, will showcase several of his paintings at Cleveland State Community College beginning Oct. 6.
LeDoux is retired from Middle Tennessee State University. Recently, 4 of his works were featured in the prestigious American Academy of Arts and Letters Invitational Exhibition in New York.
"I've known David for 40 years and I have never known, or known of, an artist who has been more consistent or more productive than David LeDoux," said CSCC Associate Professor of Art Jere Chumley. "He has always been my role model, my mentor, and an inspiration as a painter, writer and teacher. This opportunity to meet and talk with David LeDoux about his work is an opportunity not to be missed," he said.
A meet-the artist reception will be held for LeDoux on Oct. 7 from 5 to 7 PM in the Administration Building lobby. The public is invited to attend. The exhibit will remain on view through Oct. 31.
LeDoux says he makes "good paintings". "In sum, I am a late 20th century modern abstract American painter. Theory holds little interest for me. I trust experience. I have witnessed almost three-quarters of the century and have painted more than 50 years now," LeDoux said.
Currently. LeDoux works in his private studio in Woodbury. He has had numerous exhibits over the years including shows at the Birmingham Museum of Art, Hunter College Galleries in New York, Houston Museum of Art in Texas, Cheekwood Fine Arts Center in Nashville, Asheville Art Center in North Carolina and the Reece Museum in Johnson City, just to name a few.
He has collections in the Hunter Museum of Art, the Louisiana Arts Commission Galleries, the Tennessee Arts Commission Collection and others.
LeDoux is also a writer and has had short stories published in The Mountain Review, The Red Clay Reader, and articles in the Tennessee Folklore Magazine and Southern Living Magazine.
He received his master's degree from Louisiana State University and did postgraduate study at Ohio State University. For more information about the exhibit call Cleveland State.
